Wings Over Kaluna: A Fall Bird Migration Retreat is designed for experienced birders, newer birders, and anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with the natural world in a welcoming, relaxed setting.

Guided by birder and naturalist CareyJo Titus, guests will spend the weekend exploring fall migration through sunrise birding, birding by ear, evening owl listening, and informal time outdoors across the farm.

Weekend Preview

Friday
Arrive and settle in at Kaluna, followed by a farm-to-table dinner, welcome gathering, introductory presentation, and evening owl listening.

Saturday
Begin the day with guided sunrise birding, followed by coffee, scones, and brunch. The day will also include a birding-by-ear session, time to rest or explore, and an evening meal together.

Sunday
Close the weekend with morning birding, breakfast, and a final opportunity to gather before departure.

Schedule is subject to gentle adjustments based on weather, bird activity, and the natural rhythm of the weekend.

About the Land

Kaluna Farm Retreat is a 160-acre working farm and nature-based retreat in Talking Rock, Georgia. The land includes forest, fields, orchards, creekside areas, spring-fed water, garden spaces, and working agricultural habitat.

Over the years, we have watched biodiversity deepen across the farm through regenerative land stewardship, and this retreat is an invitation to witness the living landscape during one of the most active and beautiful seasons of the year.

About CareyJo Titus

This retreat will be guided by birder and naturalist CareyJo Titus. CareyJo will lead guests through birding experiences designed to build observation skills, deepen listening, and help participants better understand the movement of birds through our region during fall migration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be an experienced birder to attend?
No. This retreat is designed for both experienced birders and bird-curious guests. You do not need to know every bird by sight or sound to join us. Come with curiosity, comfortable walking shoes, and a willingness to listen and learn.

Can I come by myself?
Yes. Solo guests are very welcome. The retreat is intentionally small and community-centered, with shared meals, guided experiences, and plenty of time to connect with others or enjoy quiet time on your own.

Can I attend for Saturday only?
Yes. A limited number of Saturday Day Passes are available for $195 per person. The pass includes Saturday’s guided birding experiences, coffee + scones, brunch, dinner, time to explore the farm, and the evening fireside gathering. It does not include overnight lodging or Friday and Sunday programming. 

Where will I stay?
Guests will be placed in Kaluna’s unique overnight accommodations based on the size and needs of the group. We will follow up after registration with lodging details and arrival information. Saturday Day Pass guests do not receive overnight accommodations.

What should I bring?
We recommend bringing binoculars if you have them, comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate layers, a flashlight or headlamp, a refillable water bottle, and anything you like to use for note-taking or nature observation.

What if I don’t have binoculars?
You are still welcome to attend. If you have access to a pair, we recommend bringing them, but you do not need special equipment to participate and enjoy the weekend.

What happens if the weather changes?
The schedule may shift gently based on weather, bird activity, and the natural rhythm of the weekend. We will do our best to keep the retreat meaningful, comfortable, and connected to the season, even if plans need to adjust.
